✏️ Lesson 5:
Lesson 5: Contraception and STI-prevention
Key themes
a. Contraception basics
- Contraception and protection is more than just the pill and condoms
- The types of contraception available and the pros and cons of each
b. STI basics
- Testing and treatment
- How to use a condom
c. Negotiating safer sex - Bodily autonomy / Bodily freedom
- Condoms are the only barrier method that can protect you from both unplanned pregnancy and STIs
- Challenging stigma around STIs (e.g. challenging language such as ‘clean’ or ‘dirty’). Test and treat if you are sexually active!
- Bodily autonomy is an important principle for our sexual health and sexual freedom. This is, in part, because of a history of women’s rights and LGBTQIA+ struggles. Men have an essential part to play in all of this too.
